I had breakfast recently with a friend, it was Nasi Lemak, well my friend had it, while I just sipped on my tea. After trying to coax and psycho me into sharing her food (I’m strong willed and disciplined, I’ll never waiver, haha), our trains of thoughts and conversation moved to relationships.
It’s better to listen than give your inputs when one has something to ramble. Indeed the friend of mine had plenty to get off her chest about guys in general, in particular about our inability to accept our responsibilities. She calls the men in her life as men who never grows up.
Are we guys really socially inept and immature. Well with that, it totally reminds of the Peterpan Complex.
The one celebrity that came to mind for me was Michael Jackson. He never did grew up and was generally much comfortable mixing around with kids and getting lost in his Neverland. The irony of course Jackson named his ranch Neverland, which is a fictional world of Peter Pan.
Of course Jacko was the exception who brought the syndrome into a whole new level, but I guess every dude out there does have this Peterpan Complex . I don’t know about others but I myself can relate to it.
There was a point of time in my life that I buried myself with irresponsible behavior to justify my means to stay clear of responsibilities. But of course with time, I ‘grew up’. It’s a process that you can’t hurry and the guys have to go through as part of their rites of passage in a dude’s life.
As I advised my friend, give it time. As for the boys out there, grow up, your girlfriends or partners are not your mother. They’ll grow tired and won’t be always be around of mothering you if you insist to act like a kid.
