Made of Honor (2008)

Synopsis

For Tom (Patrick Dempsey), life is good: he’s sexy, successful, has great luck with the ladies, and knows he can always rely on Hannah (Michelle Monaghan), his delightful best friend and the one constant in his life. It’s the perfect setup until Hannah goes overseas to Scotland on a six-week business trip… and Tom is stunned to realize how empty his life is without her. He resolves that when she gets back, he’ll ask Hannah to marry him — but is floored when he learns that she has become engaged to a handsome and wealthy Scotsman and plans to move overseas. When Hannah asks Tom to be her “maid” of honor, he reluctantly agrees to fill the role… but only so he can attempt to woo Hannah and stop the wedding before it’s too late.

What Uncle Sha learned

At the mere mention of Patrick Dempsey, my lady friends would exclaim how “dreamy” this Grey’s Anatomy star is.

Of course we guys don’t get it, he’s like any other joe.

Women find him sexy of course, but since I’m straight, his sex appeal is not working on me lah.

He got a dick, we got a dick, simple.

Looking Dreamy to us guys means just waking up from a slumber with pillow creases visibly seen across our face, and some drool leftover at the side of our mouth.

But I somewhat finally get it now after watching “Made of Honor”.

Patrick Dempsey seems dreamy to women is because, well from my observation as he looked at Hannah in the movie, he has this certain gaze that goes beyond the physical form.

I just can’t explain it, but women are mesmerized and drawn by this gaze.

Either that’s really great chemistry between the two actors, or this Dempsey is really good at working the camera.

I reckon if I were to try the above, I would probably be seen comically squinting, unsuccessful of course trying to emulate Patrick Dempsey’s gaze.

As for the storyline, it serves to remind us of things that need to be spoken before it’s too late, of missing that chance, and loses him/her forever.

Overall a predictable, and happy ending … which is a recurring theme for most chick-flicks I’ve been seeing so far.
