The trials and tribulations of a compulsive writer, Melvin Udall. After his homosexual neighbor is brutally beaten, he is entrusted to the care of the neighbor’s dog, with a difficult relationship with a waitress to add on top of that. What develops is a weekend trip/triangle between these three individuals, and together they learn the true meaning of “the sunny side of life”.
What Uncle Sha learned
I just love the film “As Good As It Gets”.
It was just perfect perfect perfect!
To think of how I could have missed this gem of a movie.
I consider the film more of a quirky classic drama, rather than chick-flick.
Still if the babes loves it, who am I to complain eh.
The thing is, I frighteningly somehow sees myself as Melvin in my 50-60′s.
I can pretty much relate to the character in-fact.
Yes I do have OCD, no I don’t like people, I’m selective of my friends, I’ve issues expressing myself, I like to work alone, yada yada yada.
The list is long, and I don’t want to bother writing it all down … but you get my point right.
Jeeeeez now you know why I’m still single eh.
Similar to Melvin, I don’t know if it’s appealing to the ladies … I may be crude, unsociable and such, but I do have the capacity to learn and surprise people, even myself. Surprise in a good way of course lah.
The movie made me felt all fuzzy, warm and good by the end of it, as even the neurotic Melvin finally met his partner.
Despite his flaws, Carol looked beyond all that craziness, and saw Melvin for who he really is.
Yeah I know it’s fictional, still it gave me hope, knowing and hoping that my own Carol is out there somewhere.
P.S. And oh yes be nicer to the odd people out there. Human oddities are not meant to be laughed at.
