54 Fucking Seconds

Sha June 3, 2007 12

Remember my earlier post about my first race of the year?

I was hoping to do a sub 52 seconds, and my prior timetrial predicted me however in the 53 seconds range but it seems I wanted to be a hero, so I did a 54.48 seconds!

Well done lah Sha

But seriously, I’m really disappointed at myself. Training so hard, 6 times a week, I could at least do a 52 or 53 seconds. The 54 seconds timing reminds me of my maiden years in running.

I can still recalled when the races was still held at Serangoon stadium. Race after race, I would always be trashed by other runners like Boon Keng and Mehdi, my NTU seniors.

But I got better, then I got injured, then I got back and now the timing sucks. I’m really hoping the next Swift meet, at least some kind of improvement, no matter how marginal, it will do wonders on my self-esteem.

Usually I have the bestie to talk to, he just knows me so well. Behind that smile, I’m actually quite troubled. He just knows. I’ll have to make do and talk to my inflatable doll for now I guess :-p

In running, you need alot of passion and heart. I still have that plenty left around but I just hope the body is willing. At my age, the ‘running years’ are far in between. Sometimes you just cannot defy the laws of aging.

I noticed my speed has considerably dropped, thus I’m relying on my endurance these days to overcome my considerable lacking in speed.

Infact it’s around 2am as I wrote this, I just woke up after a weird dream. The first thing on my mind was my running. Am I that bad?

I went to bed early today or yesterday infact. Damn super early lah I might add. I was totally shagged from training and work. It has been a long and tiring week, one of my shaggest for the longest time.

After my crappy race last week, there was no rest on Monday, it was weights, then Tuesday some speed endurance, Wednesday sledging, Thursday cardio, Friday weights and Saturday endurance. Finally rest today on Sunday.

I just love running the 400m. The training is one of the toughest among all the other events, that’s why partly I took up this quater miler race. It’s unique and will leave you a stronger and a better man after it’s harsh workout.

You need a certain ‘craziness’ to train th 400m and I’ve been known for my hardcore whoops-ass attitude, so it’s a match made in heaven for me. But my results in 400m doesn’t complement the amount of training I’ve been doing for it all these years.

I’m still trying. Will try again and again and again

Blogging about this kinda ‘fired’ me up infact … Bring it on

Is it true that you have to visualize yourself running and winning a gold medal before u start running? I always heard that Olympic runners are doing that… ;)
And, enjoy your squash session alright? hehe.

Athletes do alot of visualization. before the race or during training time

it’s just easier when you run when you have an idea how you want to run and execute your plan during the race

Sha, I’m sure you’ll be able to shave off the 2 seconds and get the 52 sec timing. Gee.. youreally train a lot ah..! Anyhow good luck for you rnext race. Keep it up bro. I know 2 sec is a huge difference when it comes to racing terms but you can do it! :)

i do hope the 2 seconds shaved is sooner rather than later, kinda frustrating me now

thanks for the encouraging words bro

with every race, you learn. maybe you went too hard the first part and hentak kaki at the end?

and yes, training hard is good. but having proper rest and recovery is impt too yeah?

there is this graph that i have but i dun have a scanner to show you.

its like when u train…u reach peak A but if u dun have proper rest and recovery…the next time u train it will be at peak B (which is lower than A) and the pattern follows that will just result in fatigue and poor performance.

while i know that you are training hard and i’m sure u r taking ur ‘supplements’….i think u need to sleep more =)

more so, at your age, ehem ehem. hehehe

      my breakdown is

      24s
      39s (15sec)
      54s (15sec)

i didn’t feel i went hard the first part, i even conserve abit … so probably my last i just died

15seconds both for the last 100mx2 … kinda weird kan coz usually last 100m is slower than the 200-300m mark

i’ve to work on my last part, it has always been my weak area

supplements is all fine … multivit, protein, antioxidant, ZMA

eh wat my age, i consider fit compared to ppl my age … hehe

yeah tell me more about the Peak A & B
