I’ve always been an advocate of leading a healthy lifestyle, and the recent news report I’ve been reading affirms my belief that soda drinks are indeed bad for everyone.
I’ve stopped short of drinking them totally for years now, except on rare occasion when I’ve no other choice but to order them at functions and such.
The various news report highlights a research published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention has suggested that the soda consumption may be partly to blame in pancreatic cancer.
The study followed more than 60,000 people living in Singapore for more than a decade.
It is found that those who drank 2 or more sodas per week had a 87 per cent increased chance of developing pancreatic cancer.
Studies in other places such as U.S. also showed similar pattern. The study however highlight that diet sodas have not been linked to pancreatic cancer risk.
Scientists theorized that the excess sugar in sodas triggers greater insulin release, which may stimulate cancer cells.
Of course there are people who retort such findings and instead blame it on the overall poor diet and unhealthy lifestyle of the soda drinkers, as they’re more susceptible to eating more junk food, and does little exercise … which leads to higher rates of obesity, and a risk factor for pancreatic cancer.
Well be it soda drinks or the nutrition of soda drinkers that directly or indirectly leads to soda cancer, the findings is a wake-up call for all.
Via Ministry of Health stats page, topping the Top 10 cause of death in Singapore is actually cancer at 29 per cent. So this is no joke eh …
Knowing that you can actually do something about it, for a better quality of life, why not!
It boggles me to think of some people who put it off to later citing, no money, no time, or too much of a hassle.
I wonder what will be the tune of their excuses and rants, when they found out they are not in the pink of health as a result of their ignorance.
