I’m a true Manchester United fan in and out wholeheartedly for two decades plus now.
The one thing I hate more than our rival derby sorry-for-a-team neighbour Manchester City F.C. scums … are fickle minded soccer fans.
Why such of a topic today?
Well I was on a watch hunt currently, and a dude friend recommended me a limited edition watch that is exclusively being inspired by a certain sports star.
The thing is I love how the watch looked, and I’m OK with the the celebrity star, but I hated the team he’s on. That’s when the very topic of allegiance crops up.
I’m the type of person who supports a team when they’re not only winning, but also in the dumps. The fan following for me just sorts of happen, kinda chemical in the head of sorts. You just know yourself if you like a certain something, or truly can’t stand certain stuff ya know.
It’s something that can’t be rationale nor understood, and it’s not the trophies in the cabinet that should dictate your support of a team. So these fickle minded fans who jump their allegiance at the very moment a winning team is on top is just so despicable to me.
You might say soccer is just a game. No no no josé, it’s a way of life …
I think finding a team to support be it in soccer or F1 or basketball, the most important thing is to enjoy being a fan and be part of the team when they are in slump or when they are winning. And not becoming a burden to yourself.
I have been a FCB fan for 25 – 10 years old = 14 years already. That is about when I started watching soccer as well. I was basketball dude previously. I have never own their jerseys nor have I decorated my car like some die-hard fans here in Singapore. Nor do I openly tell people that I support them (until now). I supported them through my heart and when they are winning, you will usually see me more jovial than usual. And when they are losing, I will usually be more grumpy and will NOT read any newspapers or surf soccernet.
Yes, FCB are doing really well and I am really happy for them. But it gave me a lot bad energy and disgust to have to share my enthusiasm with other fickled-minded fans, who finds it easier to support the team that is currently winning.
Whether to get the watch or not is a personal choice. Ditto with you, I probably won’t get a watch that I really like with a “Hala Madrid” imprinted on it. But I will also not get a watch with a “Visca Barcelona” imprinted on it, simply because they have nothing to do with watches :)
Rational decision making will have to apply when choosing the correct watch. I shall leave it here.
Good day!
Keep the watch recommendation coming Paul. Just wanna say thanks again for keeping a look-out for watches. As you know I’ve bad taste when it comes to fashion, I need all the help.
I will, as often as I can, and only limited to the number of times I can go out though. You know me, I’m being chained by my books. As planned, we can go hunting for whatever gadgets your heart desire coming this December!!
And yes, I didn’t read any newspaper yesterday :P
