When I was growing up, Paolo Maldini was a super-kid for Milan then, he’s like a fcuking legend to us man.
I’m always assigned a wingback position due to my talent in running, but at times I do get to play centre-back. Just like Maldini, and sometimes I would liken myself to Maldini, haha … Hey that’s visualization, essential in sports mah.
Well 24 years later he’s one of the greatest soccer player ever in modern soccer. I can’t believe it has been that long, and to stay that long in the game is just amazing. He’s retiring at 40 years old and all I can say is that damn he still looks good at that age.
Maldini’s last home match
Italian men with their good looks eh, that can make any men insecure eh, especially us hidung penyet (flat nose) Mat like us. But no no I won’t get sucked into that debate, I’m still proud of my Melayu Boleh features.
Back to the topic at hand, to stay that long in the game, Maldini probably knows that he need to keep injury-free. That’s hard to accomplish in soccer.
I guess its the same for all sports. I think despite my age, I know I can still run and kickass some youngster in track running still. I’ve taken care of myself real good these decade or so. I’ve only been ‘seriously’ injury twice in my running for the past 8 years.
I also tried finding Maldini diet and workouts on the web if its any similar to my dieting & training approach perhaps, but to no avail. That would be interesting to know of course.
All I can find is, “Due to a special diet and training methods, captain Maldini, who turns 41 in June, is still playing as he continues the tradition of fellow club legends Franco Baresi and Alessandro Costacurta by enjoying a lengthy career.”
Anyway its been a while since I played soccer. Well the last match was probably a few months back. I’m probably rusty beyond help now.
Any Sunday soccer teams out there who wants an aging Uncle as an extra player? I promise not to embarrass the team too much.
BOYS WILL BE BOYS KAN …

Update: Oooh I found something online …
An online article extract, “The fitness programme developed under the aegis of Jean-Pierre Meersseman, Milan’s doctor, has all but proved the elixir of life for such erstwhile players as Paolo Maldini, Clarence Seedorf and Alessandro Costacurta.
Maldini, who will be 41 this summer, continues to defy the accepted limits of a centre-back’s longevity, while the 32-year-old Seedorf ascribes his endurance to the Milan philosophy of preventing injuries through forensic training. Beckham serves as an ideal guinea pig for Meersseman, who sees in the midfielder an “exceptional physique” and a capacity to play until 38 at least.
But this maintenance of ageing talents is about more than an extensive MOT from the lab, it is also ensured by a nutritional regime second to none in its exact science.
The exact details of Milan’s methods are kept secret but the diet, as tailored to a day in the life of Beckham, is understood to proceed like this: a breakfast of wholemeal cereal, toast and fructose-enhanced milk, a mid-morning snack of fresh fruit, a mixture of ground cheese and fresh fruit before and after practice, and finally grilled white meat or fish for dinner.
Sly glasses of vino are limited to one a week, with chocolate and sweets banned. This balance is believed to be ideal for shedding more than 10lb in weight and in Beckham’s case, when coupled with strict gym drills, for burning body fat at a prodigious rate.”
So for the article above I found, it is now known …
Diet Breakdown
A breakfast of wholemeal cereal, toast and fructose-enhanced milk
A mid-morning snack of fresh fruit
A mixture of ground cheese and fresh fruit before and after practice,
Finally grilled white meat or fish for dinner.
Others
Sly glasses of vino are limited to one a week, with chocolate and sweets banned.
This balance is believed to be ideal for shedding more than 10lb in weight and in Beckham’s case, when coupled with strict gym drills, for burning body fat at a prodigious rate.
Ahah just as I expected … a small, compact but high-in-nutrition meals with plenty of drills/cardio, plus abstaining from unhealthy junk or in moderation.
It’s still not detailed enough, but at least I know I got my approach in diet/training was similar.
