Waking up this morning is such a ‘pain’. I can still feel the after effects of yesterday’s tough workout. My body practically aching all over now and I’m moving as slow as a grandpops now, haha. So I decided to go for a short morning run at the stadium. A real short one …
The NTU stadium is like a second home to me. Three years of my schooling spent here, so I probably did half my training time at the SRC. Plus prior to entering NTU, I train with a former teamate, KK, who was doing his Masters here. So you could say it extends beyond three years.
I do miss those times when we would do an ‘ice-bath’ after training. We would take a really big clean trash bin that can fit a human. We soak the bin with equal parts of ice and water. After much prayers, we would dip into the ice-water for a short period in sets. I tell ya, it’s one of the most excruciating feeling you’ll ever go through. But it’s good for the body, as it speeds up the recovery process. After the dip in the ice-bath you’ll feel numb all over, shiok seh!
Back then I was still in polytechnic and I was wishing I could study in NTU. I virtually thought I stood no chance of getting enrolled but it guess dreams do come true. When I was in secondary school, I couldn’t foresee myself beyond that, but I went to ITE. In ITE I couldn’t foresee myself beyond that, but I went Poly and the ‘vicious’ cycle continues up till now …
Anyway back to my run, it was a slow run around the grass patch at the stadium. They finally put up floodlights! Bloody hell, I’ve to wait three years for these. To think when I’m gonna graduate real soon, they built it! And it’s not even built because of athletics purposes, but for soccer! Kanasai
This is the same place where I did my personal best for the 100m and 400m. Albeit hand time, it’s still fast enough in my books. I do hope there’s still time for me, to do some more fine runs on this track before I ‘retire’. The track is out of ‘shape’ and in need of a new ‘overhaul’ but like me, old is vintage, haha!
I do feel slightly better after the run but I’ll need naps later on. In fact this may sound crazy but I really looking forward to my next 300m training.
