A Scare

Yesterday, I had a big scare. In my long span of Track training these few years, I had my first ever bang onto a person.

It was a kid in-fact. I was at Gombak stadium and the crowded place was an accident waiting to happen.

I’m always particular about doing my training and always very wary of my surrounding so as not to bang into anyone but yesterday it was just unavoidable.

I learned the seriousness or the injury we athletes can cause to people if we were bang into them at maximum effort or top speed from my old friend WL.

Few years back, he was doing starts and he bang into an old man.

Well it ended with the guy bleeding all over, broken glasses, medical & spectacles bills he has to foot and alot of apologizing.

Well yesterday, I was 50meter away from where i started, i checked my lane 5 and it was clear then.

2 of my training mates was beside me in lane 4 and 6 and we were doing a 200m run at 95% effort.

So when we blast off the starts, i kept low and by the time I brought my body upright, a kid came into my lane.

He saw me, try to siam, but panic i guessed, and zigzag in-out of my lane.

I shouted at him to move, and I tried to slow down but when I was decelerating too slow, I tried to jump over him but it was too late.

My left knee hit him. I did wanted to move to my left or right but then again I don’t want to bump into my training mates who was at top speed and well end up even more in a serious condition

Well, I halted my run, ran to the kid who was sprawled on the floor crying.

His mouth was bleeding from the bottom gums.

I was freaking out man by this time.

I wiped some blood off him and looked for his parents.

When the mother came, I apologised and told of the accident.

I was lucky as she was more angry with her son playing on the track.

Yupz I was lucky as she didn’t pursue the matter or make a hoohah of the accident.

In certain aspects, I was at fault, as I did bang into the kid but then again the kid shouldn’t have gone into my lane

At Gombak stadium, SAAA reserved Lane 1 to 5 for us athletes to use while the civilian use the outer lanes.

But i guess people are just too ignorant of all the signs found at the stadium.

They were using all the available lanes and when we did asked them to move, they’ll give us the looks or just ignore us.

Its just so frustrating to train there.

There used to be an uncle who worked at Gombak stadium who shouted at people to move away from our lanes, but he’s not there anymore

So moral of the story people, please be careful when jogging in the stadium.

If you see an athlete running at top speed, please do not enter his lane
