
Today I trained alone. My other two training partners are away on competition duties while another one has job attachment. Kinda boring and unmotivated for me, when I do have to train alone.
I find it lacking the necessary presence of ‘trying to outdo one another’ when compared when you train together
I’m the type of runner who needs pacer or another training partner to excel. I know that’s not good, having to rely on another to get a good workout. Oh trust me, I’ve my fair share of being all alone training few years back, that’s why I joined a training group.
Today I trained at Gombak gym and stadium. I can say, that I can be proud of my workout today lah. I kept up with my last workout maximum weights or effort, but this time I was all alone with no training partners doing the workout.
First workout, the clean. This you need to be explosive and lift up the weighted Olympic bar . My maximum was 70kg at last sets of 5 reps. I know I could have lifted more if my training partners were here, aahh well maybe next session I’ll do better. Still I made it up with good lifting form. My back arching when lifting is lesser these days
Next workout, bench press. My strength in the workout for the past few years have dropped considerably. Maybe my breast too small lah. Keke. This workout works your chest. I did 70kg at the last set, quite a feat since the last time I bench press was quite some time back during loading week.
The abs and back workout with weights I’ve no problems doing that. Doing it with 25kg weight. Gotta go slower or add more reps/set to feel tired the next time round.
Hurdles jumping is next. 7 jump hurdles to be done seven times. I’ve always had phobia for hurdles jumping training. I’ve new found respect for hurdlers. No shit! After my first encounter with such trainings, leaping into a hurdle can be frightening. You can hurt yourself seriously if you’re not careful. And you know what, I hurt myself doing that today.
Actually I was doing better hurdles jumping training than any other previous days. I was clearing heights I’ve never been confident before, today. And during my last set, I didn’t clear the last hurdle. It was set to the most maximum height slot. My left leg was trailing and it got caught at the hurdles.
I can clearly remember it. So hilarious, the accident kinda feels like on slow-motion. After I clear the second last hurdle, I dropped to the ground, actuated a fast leg-ground contact for a big last leap. As I leaped up, I looked at the last hurdle with confidence. But I know something felt wrong the moment I could feel my left toe was touching something.
My vision when jumping are usually looking forward but this time, I saw myself looking down to look at my left toe. Something gone wrong, I thought in my mind. Oh crap! Haha
I felt my body slanted and moving off to the right to offset the left toe caught the hurdle. I could remember falling slowly to the ground. My right arm outstretched automatically to catch my fall.
Hurdles sound makes the most annoying sound when you crash into. Everyone will take notice of it as it’s loud. The next thing you know, I was on the floor, on my ass. My right leg was free while the other one was pin behind the hurdles. I was expecting pain to come in, but no, there wasn’t. Cool.
I just need to look cool and handles the stares. I was training at Gombak stadium there and it was around late into 6pm. The usually closed stadium was open to the public by that time. So when I fell, there was plenty of joggers there running. I got up, brought up the hurdles and kept it. I didn’t attempt to redo the last jumping set, as I could feel my shin acting up again.
Only when I’ve returned the hurdles back to the shed, then I saw. One big cut on my shin.Then the seething pain start to come. It felt like needles pricking you. I washed it with the water from my bottle. The acute pain felt went up a notch. I then grinned. As they said it, “No pain, no gain” right.
Ahh it’s one of those rare days, I like training alone. I felt good today …

i agree with the training alone bit. :( my fren’s not in singapore these days, so i don’t have my usual gym buddy to motivate me. needless to say, i’ve been slacking in the gym dept, kekekeke. so i force my mommy to go running with me instead. ^_^
well i need to do hurdles if i wanna run well. part of the ‘package’

yea man! hurdles r scary shit! i used to run the hurdles back in sch days for the national schs competition and wifout proper trainin in sch…i was definitely an amatuer!
our school is crap when is comes to sports eh … but it has such an impact on both of us
kinda shaped into who we were .. do you still go back and coach?
i’ve not stepped into the school since i last grad
i went back to coach a little the year after i graduated…that’s when the juniors outdid themselves and all did personal bests. and tis kid vicky qualified for the individual finals for x-country. i aint bragging but i think our sch does produce outstanding athletes like yourself!
i know vicky. he was my junior. met him sometime back
