400m The Real Deal

If you have seen top 400m runners running a race, they are running at around 44 seconds per lap. To appreciate how fast these runners are, if converted that’s around 9 meters per seconds! Imagine that, to run that far in a split second, amazing! So to illustrate the speed timings for different level

World Elite –> 44sec ~ 9m/s
Asian Elite Avg –> 46sec ~ 8.7m/s
Singapore top senior –> 48sec ~ 8.3m/s
Singapore top junior –> 52sec ~ 7.7m/s
Uncle Sha –> 51sec ~ 7.8m/s

And to even break it down even further how many meters per stride you need to cover. For the clueless, a stride is one complete cycle of running motion. An average 400m runner will take about 180 steps. After conversion, the world elite runner running 400m at 44sec pace will cover 3m per stride! Holy crap!! So if I were to convert the various levels

World Elite –> 44sec ~ 3m
Asian Elite Avg –> 46sec ~ 2.9m
Singapore top senior –> 48sec ~ 2.7m
Singapore top junior –> 52sec ~ 2.5m
Uncle Sha –> 51sec ~ 2.6m

Just imagine your IPPT standing board jump. I think there’s a correlation there. My personal best is hovering around 270-280cm and at my current 51sec 400m timing, my per stride covers 2.6m. So theoretically speaking if I improve my standing board jump distance, my stride will also increase thus improving my timing. Well just an idea.

Well I hope I’m not confusing anyone with this entry. Just a little statistics calculation to the 400m variation and possibility to improve. Any feedbacks guys? Maybe share your running experience

you really can run that fast. i think if we both compete, thats it i will be 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 m behind you.

how come my standing board jump is just over 3m yet I couldnt run below 50s? :p

i’m doing more of speed endurance than you lah dei … you’re a sprinter, so your 400m ok ok. if i run 100m against u, your turn to trash me

the standing board jump is just a suggestionable correlation between stride p/meter and your timing. i don’t have any proof backing it
