Blogging Changed My Life

Faddy April 10, 2007 28

Firstly, sorry Sha, but I can’t help editing your banner and putting my name on it. I was having a ‘moment’ where I imagined myself being escorted to a chair with my own name (along with a star sign) engraved at the back ala directors’ chair but it was too hard to photoshop in, so I guess a banner with my name (star inclusive, of course) will have to do :P

And all the above goes to show just how thankful and appreciative I am to be invited to blog on your behalf as you charge ahead for the Battle of the Examinations. I, along with your thousands of readers, wish you all the best. Study hard and study smart okay? :D

On another note, it struck me how ‘real’ the online friendship Sha and I share have become over the months. A few years back, I wouldn’t have imagined myself being friends with a 27 year old man who calls himself a ‘bangla’, but fast forward to the current reality, things have really changed.

I guess with the evolvement of the world wide web, communications have really been given the extra push to allow formations of connections spanning across borders, cultures, gender, age and etcetra. It has allowed what would have been almost impossible to become a reality.

I mean seriously. Without the internet, how on earth would I have made ‘friends’ with people like Sha, Eddy or L who mix in way different social circles then mine? Firstly, our age gap is really quite profound and secondly, our passions and careers all differ greatly!

Since young I’ve been diseased with a rather (social) life threatening illness otherwise known as ugliness which really made it hard for me to come out of my small circle of friends and make new friends.

Hiding behind the veil of the internet has really allowed me to make new friends without letting them know how I look like (although a couple of the opposite sex suddenly disappear upon exchanging of photos), and greatly boosted my self confidence.

I found myself being more ‘me’ in the internet and with the opening of my first blog, found my own voice and an avenue to express myself openly, thus allowing me to ‘connect’ with others and giving opportunities for new relationships to be formed. I swear, I could never have this much contacts without my good ol’ blog.

I get to meet and interact with people from all walks of life, from journalists to engineers, housewives, teachers, paramedics, students like myself and even the occasional cute guys HAHA. Opinions can be shared, stories can be swapped and ideas can be put forward.

Apart from entrusting uncountable new relationships into my life, blogging and the internet has also amongst other things, improved my vocabulary vastly (compare me then, and now), widened my skills in handling applications related to html or photoshopping, improved my PR skills etc.

Also, you get to see the many different colors of human nature, from those who really lift you up through encouragements whenever you’re feeling down, and on the other side, people who go really all out to bring you down with snide remarks (done anonymously of course).

It has truly been a very memorable and fruitful journey, I have to admit :) Has blogging changed your life? It sure has changed mine.

P/s. And thus ends my rather random first entry by a Guest Blogger. Look forward to far better entries by other great bloggers who have also become a part of my life! And btw, I think I can rename my column as “Tuesdays with Faddy” hahahahaha. Ok see you next Tuesday!

Yeah blogging is cool to a certain extend. Like i said in my previous blog, the blogger must have ‘control’ of it

It’s great I could meet bloggers like u, eddy, LTS and many more. We should really form an alliance. Blogger Alliance. Meetup, discussion, soccer? haha

    Thanks again Faddy …

    i think, in life,
God works in a very mysterious ways..
    dulu dulu, zaman irc,
people met up and form irc alliance…
got special grp lah #singapore, #melayu channels… etc etc..

now, blogging seems to be a way of communicating and even understanding others better…

like, when i met you, and reading entries from bloggers, its nice that we know each other even before we met one another… :)

*slaps eddy around with a large trout*

Haha sorry, just had to use that classic line. Darn, I miss mirc.

And yeah, I guess blgging really helps conversations in real life ey. It’s like when you meet, you really feel like you’re already old friends cuz you know SO much about one another!

good 1st entry u have there, faddy.

a way to introduce urself to new readers like me, and re-introduce to the others.

now i’m waitin 4 ur nxt one. :)

and yes, blogging has changed people’s lives, including mine. tho careful to not overstep certain barriers, but a wonderful way to present who i am and how i think. contrary to popular beliefs.

you keep on going dear. an inspiration, nevertheless.

    :)

Hey Purplejanzz, thanks for the compliment! Yup, i’m constantly trying to improve my writings for myself and for my readers. InsyaAllah I’ll be able to reach our good ol’ Unc Sha’s level here :P

About the barriers bit, I so understand that. As marvelous the net seems, it’s limitless opportunities does bring about certain questions of conduct uh. And then there’s the question of privacy :/

An honest, perceptive post, Faddy. I can totally relate. =)

I’m a new blogger and blogging has given me the opportunity to widen my network with people I wouldn’t have had the chance to mix with in real life.

Having an online presence really gives one many insights and different perspectives. It’s time consuming and you can get sucked in, but the experience is worth it! =)

    • Faddy April 13, 2007 at 6:36 pm - Reply

Yay I’m glad so many of us can relate to the topic I wrote about. I guess it’s just something which each and every hardworking blogger goes through hhaha. (by hardworking I mean those who gives a rat’s ass on their blog).

And yeah, for all you know, I just might have found another lawyer as one of my contacts! :)
