I may not be a power Twitter user, but I do use it. Please people, the technology is not a place to dump your links. It’s a mean to connect to people, not spam them.
Twitter Do and Don’ts
- Block mass followers (E.g. Following 9,999. Followers: 1)
- Spread out your tweets. Don’t bombard it with long tweets in a row. Blogging is a better alternative.
- Less is better. Don’t be a mass follower yourself. It’s about connecting to people who are similar to you or share the same interest, not following every Jane, Dick or Harry out there.
- Put a face. I personally want to know the person behind that profile. So a face photo profile would be good, rather than an avatar of anything else. Complete your bio profile too.
- It’s alright to unfollow people on Twitter. Unfollowing doesn’t mean that “I don’t like you.”
- Use @reply when someone asked you a question specifically at you. Direct message them only with your reply if you want privacy.
- I don’t usually direct message people I don’t know.
- You don’t have to respond to every @mention.
- You don’t have to read every tweet.
- When retweeting other people’s works, I usually truncate it.
- CAPS on Twitter is the same elsewhere on the web. You’re being rude.
