Twitter Do and Don’ts

TwitterI may not be a power Twitter user, but I do use it. Please people, the technology is not a place to dump your links. It’s a mean to connect to people, not spam them.

Twitter Do and Don’ts

  1. Block mass followers (E.g. Following 9,999. Followers: 1)
  2. Spread out your tweets. Don’t bombard it with long tweets in a row. Blogging is a better alternative.
  3. Less is better. Don’t be a mass follower yourself. It’s about connecting to people who are similar to you or share the same interest, not following every Jane, Dick or Harry out there.
  4. Put a face. I personally want to know the person behind that profile. So a face photo profile would be good, rather than an avatar of anything else. Complete your bio profile too.
  5. It’s alright to unfollow people on Twitter. Unfollowing doesn’t mean that “I don’t like you.”
  6. Use @reply when someone asked you a question specifically at you. Direct message them only with your reply if you want privacy.
  7. I don’t usually direct message people I don’t know.
  8. You don’t have to respond to every @mention.
  9. You don’t have to read every tweet.
  10. When retweeting other people’s works, I usually truncate it.
  11. CAPS on Twitter is the same elsewhere on the web. You’re being rude.
