Looking for a Good CMS

Sha January 17, 2007 0

Well now, finally my new blog is finished! I apologize if the horrible looking white design earlier fooled you into thinking it was the final design. Nor could I port over the precious comments made previously.

I had SQL errors during the server move. It took me awhile to design this but so far I’m currently happy with this design version until of course I get itchy backside finger again. I’m the type of person if a pixel is out place, and if I don’t fix it, I’ll go to bed at night worrying all about it.

I could have finished my blog earlier if not some last minute ‘cock-up’ with the previous CMS I was using. It gave me crap on certain features, so I had to re-script my blog again on a new CMS platform. Oh boy was I sweating & crying in my pants when I had to recode it again.

Well I’ve tried them all, the CMS (Content management system) scripts I mean. From Mambo, e107 to Cutenews and each of them has it finer individual points and features but in overall here’s my guide in choosing the right CMS for your website!

1) Search Engine friendliness
Have the ability to edit/add/manipulate your SEO section such as metas and description is important to get listed at search engines

2) Human friendly membership system
Able to add long user names, not limited to certain character or forced into weird names. Also ability for members to change their profiles and limited to generic user modules

3) A good organized category system
If you have major categories to add, flexibility in this option is a must

4) Able to change to Human friendly URLs
“http://www…./money/work-earn.html” instead of “http://www…./index.php?id=32″

5) Easy template design changes/addition
CMS should sort the programming & design codes. Not to mix them up. Help related topics should be ample.

6) Syndication ready
Out of the box RSS feed / aggregator and, enabling `Live Bookmarking’ for Firefox and IE users

7) Internal search engine
If the CMS don’t come with its own search engine, forget it!

8) Logs
Every CMS should come with a good referral or websites logs for webmasters to observe and taking note of the website trend and changes

9) Idoit free installation
Some webmasters are newbies so having complicated jargon or steps is a big NO, NO. If there is plenty of steps involved, there should be sufficient instruction

Here’s a few of my recommendation of ‘good’ CMS

Drupalhttp://drupal.org

e017http://www.e107.org

Mambohttp://www.mamboserver.com

Cutenews Russiahttp://english.cutenews.ru

WordPresshttp://wordpress.org

Movable Typehttp://movabletype.org

And in no time, with a good CMS foundation and frequent content, you’ll be earning some good money online
