To sidetrack a bit for today’s entry, WordPress version 2.8.5 has been released. From what I’ve read it’s more of a security fix and patches for a stable version before 2.9 is released next.
Some of the new and added features includes:
- A fix for the Trackback Denial-of-Service attack that is currently being seen.
- Removal of areas within the code where php code in variables was evaluated.
- Switched the file upload functionality to be whitelisted for all users including Admins.
- Retiring of the two importers of Tag data from old plugins.
It has always been a prerogative of me to always upgrade to the latest WordPress version, as I’ve had bad experiences with exploits when I didn’t upgrade.
Well I do advise you to do so if you’ve yet done similarly. So far the upgrade I did on all my blogs was without any issues. I didn’t even backup the SQL before hand.
It was a seamless upgrade, so that’s good. But don’t take my word for it. Make backups on your own, if you’re unsure.
I don’t understand why they released the new version so quickly after the last update 2 months ago.
I don’t see any changing in this new version. It’s not really necessary to upgrade.
