Countdown to WordPress 2.9

Sha December 2, 2009 0

wordpress-2.9I’m a WordPress theme developer and I’ve been following the progress of the next WordPress version of 2.9.

It is reported it would be ready in several weeks.

For general user, expect future themes to come with post that has thumbnails.

Usually there’s a plugin required to display related thumbnail to each entry, now it will be easily configured and inserted.

Also those on the move, with no image editing on their notebook perhaps, WordPress 2.9 will have a nifty basic image editing tool.

Cool eh … Will suit me great, as I’m always on the move, I could modify my images anywhere on any connection.

WordPress 2.9 is currently in beta and is expected to be ready in several weeks.

Major new features for developers:

- comments meta table
- improved support for custom post types
- register_theme_directory() for additional theme locations
- back-ported JSON encode/decode for both PHP and JavaScript

and for users:

- oEmbed support
- “Trash” for posts, pages and comments
- post thumbnails support
- basic image editor

More details are available in the Codex http://codex.wordpress.org/Version_2.9 and on trac.
