Norman Rockwell

Norman-RockwellI’ve this fascination with Norman Rockwell paintings.

I just don’t know why, but his works to me kinda depicts moments of innocence, untouched, and mostly harmless.

Kinda like an idealistic vision of what heaven might be like.

Superficial as that may sound, it comforting to know by just looking at it, I just feel at rest even it’s for a moment. That’s the good thing about indulging in the arts.

But the story behind a Norman Rockwell painting is truly a stark contrast to what is being painted on the canvas.

The American painter actually came from one of the worst neighborhoods in America, where he would watch in horror of Italian street gangs blooding up other gangs groups such as the Irish, and vice versa.

The attacks would be so vicious, but Norman Rockwell continued to paint comforting pictures of a kinder, simpler world, in the midst of the brutality.

In a way, Rockwell employed his talents to shape reality into what he wanted it to be. It didn’t matter if that world was ever real.

I guess many of us can relate to that I reckon. It’s truly a gift what a strong mind and your personal conviction can do.
