Well here’s a recap of my yesterday’s outing to Love Amplified – World Aids Day Concert.
It was an enjoyable outing overall.
Prior arriving to the location, on the way I was bumping into old school mates. Most of the time I try to shy away from such impromptu ‘bumps’ by turning away if I noticed anyone familiar, but I had no choice today as the person was right in front of me.
Well the usual ’20 questions’ and promise to meet up and keeping in touch. Bleah …
The setting for the concert was at Fort Canning Park. It’s a free-for-all seating on the grass patch. I luckily brought a newspaper, so I used it as a temporary mat.
Well the concert says 7.30pm as the start time, but the first performance was around ten past eight. The opening act was this interesting drum major kinda performance by The Strikeforce. Kinda reminds me of the Danish’s percussion Safri Duo.
As for host, it was ‘Stickgirl’ Jean Danker and this dude, I can’t recall his name. So paiseh … Hazri, Nasri or something. They were fun and it was really brave for the dude to share and admit he had a close shave with HIV.
As for the other performances, my favorite band Electrico wasn’t having their best night. They sound lacklustre, but I still love them, Dave, Desmond, William and Amanda (Weet Weet).
I should highlight the Dim Sum Dollies was hilarious … so was Hossan Leong in his cabaret act sing and dance.
I don’t want to name names but some local singer just butchered two classics with his cover version. Oh my please stick to your album.
I stayed until the end of the performance, where Stephanie Sun was slated to perform. I’ve never really heard her live other than National Day. She has so much ‘range’ of repertoire coming from that small petite body of hers. This one another ‘stickgirl’.
I left after Stephanie third songs of the night. I’m fine with her performance of course, but would have loved it even more if I could understand it. It was all in cheena.
Overall I think the fans and those attended yesterday concert has gotten the message behind the event. I’ve to admit sometimes you need some ‘scare tactics’ to get the message across.
So people, be ‘safe’ … if cannot, just practice abstinence lah.
Credit: Thank to Xavier, Love Amp and Health Promotion Board for the invite. We should do this again next year.
