The Malays A Creative Mess?

Sha March 29, 2007 15

There wouldn’t be Abdul Ghani Hamid a proud Cultural Medallion, nor the successful Malaysia’s Ramly Burger franchise spilling our shores, both our Singapore Idols are Malays, my favourite Malay singer/songwriter Art Fazil or even Zubir Said’s Majulah Singapura if such Malay creativity was unduly hindered.

But to say the least these unique individuals success story above are far and few in between when compared to other non Malay accomplishments in Singapore. So how do we promote more such creativity? If we Malays lack in terms of academia, maybe we can make up for that lacking in terms of our creativity. More artists, performers, writers perhaps …

But then again being creative doesn’t just apply to the arts scene, it could be instill in our Malay researchers, scientist, inventors that any impossibility could be a reality. To create something unthinkable that could be a fact of life one day.

Even the Singapore ‘gahmen’ have jumped on the creativity ‘bandwagon’. My school NTU being which originate as an engineering background, now even have a new Arts, Design & Media school.

There you go! Changes … It’s a well known that our youth have always always excelled in science and mathematics but duly performed poorly at things that requires the ability to think critically.

I do hope the Malay students will take up such ‘challenges’ and keep in tandem with the new vision. If not, hahaha, next year statistics, it will the same all over again lah.

Melayu Boleh!

Well hmm, between creativity and academia. I used to think that being enrolled in the compulsory education hinders alot of creative juices. that was why I decided not to choose the ‘safe’ sec-jc-uni path.

Haiz, tapi creative2 pon, nak make a living out of it pon, it’s gona be difficult. Cuz its a dog eat dog world out there.

Agree with u.

P/s: I dunno how to express in English, so I have to write in Malay. Dun be angry ah, Sha… LOL.

No probs bro, i fully understand what you’re trying to say

Yeah but being truly open and global can we only moved ahead, in terms of ourself and the contribution to the nation in our own ‘little’ ways.

“It its up to be, it’s up to me”

Dun forget our national language is Malay.

And of course, do you know why the cokmar or the parlimentary mace is carried only by a man in a songkok. Kehkhekeh because on the old mace is inscribed, “Kepada Allah kami berserah” the new one I am not sure though. Thus it represents the power of the president. When the president is in, the mace shall not be brought in and vice-versa.

Yes I believe Malays are born to be something.

Memang betul apa Hang Tuah kata, “Takkan Melayu Hilang di Dunia”
Tapi Hang Tuah tak kata, Takkan Hilang Maruah Melayu! Sikap terbuka memang boleh, dan setuju sgt ngan kata nas, “tanpa menggadai maruah bangsa dan agama,”

But the battle is not about losing identity or about losing faith, but is in fact being together. Malays are born to be ‘pendengki’ and this sifat shall be dismissed. Most Malays do not see the development of other malay children other then theirs. Remember what Rasul SAW said, ” One is not yet a Muslim when one does not desire for another muslim what he desire for himself” Riwayat Muslim. You can look at a matrep or a minah or even a bad child, but unless you have it in your heart to say, “Ya Allah forgive my people, lead us into your arms” and stop saying, “Apa nak jadi ngan budak melayu sekarang!” then the whole cycle of unknowledgable split ends will never be stopped.

So my suggestion, stop being selfish people. Those graduates, get out of those ties and ironed shirts and come down and teach these kids, or even talk to them. Maybe once, twice they will shun you, but not thrice right. Cuba dulu baru mengata. So that maybe you dun want to just create a bunch of creative people. Why not we become a creative bunch as a whole. As one people. Serumpun kita takkan patah… Baru org mahu membuka mata, bahawa melayu ada maruah dan melayu takkan mengalah.

    Sori beb for my ramblings…

Wah thanks for all the cool info. Didn’t know that one of the mace. You history major is it? But then again, president got power mah? Hahaha

Good ‘ramblings’ dude. I think it’s a sound advice. My friend did offer me to take up such ‘roles’, i might just do that. Giving back to the community, our community

    hello averyone.

u see, when we talk about numbers here and there, we will never, ever ending to differentiate races.4 mi, i think waht is critical is to look into the big picture tube of singapore, on the basis of survival together.otherwise we sink together and we will never, ever rise again to the many expectations.all will be gone foreever if we still talk
about malays ever again, talk about malays vs chinese or malays vs indians in any field taht
    singaporeans excel.

this numbers are too useless for now because there are many reasons to believe taht banding together as a stong singapore is vital.

try to talk something different, something great to achieve together as multi nationals
    singaporeans.

the globalised world has pointed out taht the essence of excellence lies in the technicality of every citizen of a country to be cross-borderless.it proved taht we need to close rank together, wherther u are chinese, malays or indians and, especially we are small ‘little red dot’.we need to work-out on something else to survive as a Nation.is not just don’t care about malays and chinese must do the hard work in doing business or don’t care about chinese, let them do the ‘stupid’ business and we malays just stay cool and take the ‘handout’.

the ‘phd’ – perasaan hasrat dengki, or dendam sesama singaporeans, does not work at all in today’s singapore! beware we, chinese, malays or indians.we need better vision.we need
    a role together.

does not,it sounds critical.i am asking myself and u singaporeans?

in the name of prosper thy neighbour,i ask myself, would not it be better to capitalise on our
differences in many fields, many more oppotunities, and to be banded together and proclaim that we are multi nationals singaporeans with an honest meaning.

try ponder this ‘brother,do you sell halal nasi lemak?i want a thousand packets’, asked a customer from Africa, and you say, ‘no, we sell only non-halal nasi lemak, may be you can try get it in malaysia’.

now, with this kind of situation there’s no excuse of not having multi race singapore to be your business partner.

waht i am trying to suggest is taht we all need to talk again on many issues of survival together as a multi nationals singaporeans.

taht’s it.u can brand a true blue local born singaporean

    bye c u.

Sometimes you do need the numbers to find out the current condition and performance us malay in general. if it’s not proportional with the other ethnicity population achievements, then its a good indicator to at least find where we went wrong

Yes to work together is something we all should do but we must also encourage our own melayu people to advance and progress.

if we’re forever stagnant and let other people get ahead of us, we’ll never see the end of light the same plentiful success stories other ethnic races in Singapore has experienced. sometimes in this case, it’s good to be ‘selfish’

u are very right on the sytems of numbering on the malays.but u have not experience how kepahitan melihat and mendengar cacian banggsa lain kerana ‘mereka’ membanggakan kemajuan mereka itu sendiri.

these are people yang suka compare mengkompare terhadap melayu.

    see waht i mean.

let’s move on and jangan percakapkan itu semua, just simpan dengan melayu kita sendiri. and kita bersehkan nama melayu hingga tersohurnya kita.

but it must come with a price of sacrifice.as waht u say, encouragement mesti ada dalam ‘check list’ melayu.

selfish boleh but jangan ‘jual ikan’ dengan sesama kita melayu, but ‘buy fish’ terhadap melayu.another word is ‘help, help, help the malays as much as possible.taht’s it.
