This Mat Malay Lepak Day

Sha December 17, 2008 0

Usually the weekends will be my day off but considering its holiday period, my weekends are spent trying to play catch-up on finishing my work.

Work has been non-stop and deadlines are piling up. Looking in the mirror I looked awful, its always like that when I’m tired.

Well to my delight, I finally finished my this week bulk of assignments. Before I go out there and source for more work, I decided to have a mid-week break.

Since it cost a bomb to go to the movies and I love to lose myself in my usual on-screen flicks, I whip-out my old external HDD of movies.

Classics I tell ya, a whole lepak session of catching my old favorite movies … it was a movie marathon the whole day for me.

Headphones on … Check!
Jam spread on my left … Check!
Spoon on my right … Check!
Cuppa of Horlick nearby … Check!
Bladder empty … Check!

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Remember this one kids. It’s a classic for me and teens of my era back in the late 90′s.

Julia Stiles is so uhm hot, the blonde yet smartass role really works for her.

The late Heath Ledger plays the brooding lead guy role and I must say great acting as usual.

I wouldn’t say its Shakespearean, but it got my heart fluttering for more. As usual such movie ends on a good note, but yet its not too sacherine sweet type of those movie, that grosses you out.

I won’t wanna spoil the storyline for ya, but do catch it for the things guys do to win the heart of a gurl.

Mask (1985)

This movie really got me ‘choking’ and teary-eyed more than any other movies I’ve seen.

It stars Cher, yes that Gypsy singer and a young Eric Stolz. And no this is not the popular Mask comedy movie starring Jim Carrey.

It’s about a boy with physical deformative who trudges through life and discrimination being upbeat no matter what.

And surrounds him are his protective junkie mother, friends and get this, a macho looking Sam Elliot. I didn’t know the actor looks so cool back then.

Trust me, after watching this, it will be one movie you pat on your shoulder for sitting down through this. You’ll laugh, cry, shout with the characters in the movie. I really enjoyed this flick.

Night of the Living Dead (1990)

I can say I’m an expert on zombie movies. I just love walking of the dead type of movies.

And I can tell you that’s there’s not many ‘good’ zombie movies out there.

Some I recommend are ‘Dawn of the Dead’, British version ’28 Days Later’ (this is more of a viral strain gone bad) to ‘Diary of the Dead’.

Well for this movie, it is an old classic! It’s a remake of George A. Romero 1968 movie of the same title. I prefer the updated version as it more ‘believable’.

The main lead Patricia Tallman is now a nobody actress, but if you observe and recall, she’s the hot psychic from the popular TV sci-fi Bablyon 5.

Basically the story is one day the flesh eating dead just wakes up from the ground and hell on earth starts. But the movie focus on a certain part of rural America.

Moonstruck (1987)

This is one of the earlier witty quirky movies of the 80′s I’ve seen in my earlier years.

Yes it stars again Cher and a young dreamy-eyed Nicholas Cage, whose receding hairline ain’t that bad yet.

I think Cher is one of the most under-rated actress around. With this movie, she finally shut her critics up by winning an Oscar for her leading role.

Comparing her looks then and now, its like she never aged, haha. Wonders of plastic surgery eh.

Well back to the movie, its a pretty intense movie for one it concerns Italians. They’re pretty gestural people. The hunched shoulders, the fingers flailing and pointing, that sorts.

But the gist of the movie is about love and forgiveness. It all started with the story of bad luck which turned around when the characters start to think with their heart instead of their head.
