Body Odour

We perceive odors as either pleasant or unpleasant right

We all agree that a rotten egg has a bad smell and turns people off, but maybe just a few out however loves the odor. Well that’s my point … smell can be subjective, but overall I think most of us have similar sense of smell

It got me thinking as in my family, my dad has his own unique odour. His room has a pungent smell. Even from a distance, I’ll instantly know it’s him from his personal body odour

I’m not airing my family dirty laundry here lah, I love my dad but I’m stating an example

People have their own unique body odour … and I was wondering if I’ve inherited his ‘smell’ too. You can’t really make heads or tail of your own smell, as its coming from you. Well you need to ask someone else

You know how siblings are known for their ruthless brutal truth, that’s why I asked my sister if I’ve body odour … You know what she said?

She said, “No you don’t stink”

I was satisfied with her answer. We’re flesh and blood, and she would gain nothing by lying, deceiving or being nice. Next time round, I’ll ask my other close peeps. Hahaha … yes I am weird

The thing is I’ve this particular issue with smell

Everyone loves to smell great right. Even me lah. I’ve tried a couple of cologne, none of those pricey ones of course. I tried Davidoff and such.

Currently I’m using Nivea deodorant, Hugo Boss and layer it with Cool Water

My little sister herself, when going out, I think she bath in perfume shower or something. The smell is darn strong and overpowering. I noticed most girls overdo on the perfume bit. We guys like it subtle.

But recently, the little sister has a change in her perfume, it smells much better now

If money makes the world go round, smell then makes you go round and round too, if it’s a bad one lah. Hahaha ok it’s a lame joke … But seriously even if you’re sitting beside me and you stink, I won’t show it on the face. I think that would be rude

I’ve seen people pinching their nose, contorting their faces in disgust and whine “chòu”

If you can’t stand it, just walk away and go somewhere else … simple

As I’m writing this, I’m smelling my armpits. I’ve been noting my body smell at the end of the day for a week now. Some moron scientific study I’m doing on myself, keke. It seems my left armpit has a slightly more of my ‘body odour’ than my right. Interesting Einstein

I recalled once during National Service, I’ve this certain platoon mate who has a unique body odour. We all agreed he has a stench. As harsh as it may sound, we buay tak boleh tahan lah. We tried to be nice and diplomatic about it, so we decided to specially give him his own locker for his stuff

He knows and we know that he has a body odour. Although it’s not out in the open, we all agreed on the locker setup

The norm usually would be two person would share a locker, but for the dude, there’s a need for segregation … haha, oh preaseeee we’re not being mean. I’m sure you readers are similar like me too, you would do it in a heartbeat if you’re anywhere near his stench. You would!!

Anyway I’ve my fallback if I do happen to stench, I’ll know as my usual training partner Paul would ‘somehow’ tell me. He won’t directly say it out loud, but the scrunching of his nose and fluttering of nostrils more often than usually it does would indicate he doesn’t approve of the smell. And Paul I know is pretty particular about smell, even more than me! It’s the training attire that stinks, not me lah.

Sometimes you’ve used that same training shirt for so many times, that washing it would only remove the sweat stink temporarily and would return once you sweat in it again. But then again it’s your favorite shirt, you’ve a tough time throwing it away … ahhh the perils of a middle-aged athlete, haha

I believe if you have a problem … that is if you think it’s a problem in the first place anyway, well you should find a solution to it. I’m that type of person. A ‘Fixer’

Well nonetheless, people have a variety of reason why they’ve body odour. It could be your diet, it could be you’re sick or you’re just having a bad laundry day.

Of course if you don’t want it ‘fixed’, then leave it be. As long you’re happy smelling the way you are, why not

Believe it or not some women like the natural body odour of their men (can be a turn on)…but not smelly sangat laaah!

You might find the below an interesting read. Its from the link below.

Compared to other primates, humans produce a relatively high amount of body odour. Certain areas of the body such as the armpits and the genital area, contain high amounts of apocrine glands which secrete pheromones. It is only at the onset of puberty that these glands begin to function, and it is only after puberty that sweat begins to smell. In sufficient quantity, pheromones constitute natural human body odour, which may indicate some sort of sexual function. So before you slap on that antiperspirant, you may want to consider the biological importance of body odour.
