I was at the Stadium SRC finishing up my training the other day
My routine ended with some cooling down at the pull-up area
Facing the area, was this large football field and I was looking at the plenty of Malay boys playing soccer
It was a Saturday, so the field is usually busy with such soccer activities around the weekend
The Malay boys was no more than my age when I got soccer crazy during my younger hey-days
They very much reminded of myself
I remembered taking the TIBS bus number 178 with my busloads of young Malay punks going West bound and play football matches here at NTU
That was like 15 years plus ago
Maybe in another 15 years time, maybe one of those boys will look back like me, connect all the dots and like me, and wonder, “Hey I was once here playing soccer”
Life works in mysterious ways eh
A friend once told me “Life is not the amount of breaths you take. Its the moments that take your breath away”.
Yes you may find the saying rather familiar and cheesy as it came off a movie
But I’ve come to realise that other than only certainty in life such as death, taxes and me waking up in the morning; well whatever the question is, I always answer yes … I find that to experience such moments, you can’t really change the situation, but you can change your attitude towards that situation
You can’t let life slide by just like that, you have to want it for yourselves.
We are responsible for who we become, despite the background and circumstances which may have influenced who we are
As we approach the new year, I wonder what holds for me the next fifteen years or so
Whatever lies ahead, good or bad, take my hand and embark with me on this journey
Here’s to 2008 and beyond
