When I was growing up, I had a lot of flak for the nickname I used above when I was chatting in IRC.
Not only was the ‘bullying’ reserved for online domain, but in real-life too.
Yes I was that geeky nerdy weird kid who hang on every little known facts about the sci-fi saga.
My usual pick-up line would be like, “Wanna touch my lightsaber”.
Who in their right mind would not take a potshot at such a loser right.
I guess I had nothing much going on for me then, so I practically focused all my obsession on Star Wars.
I was a walking Star Wars encyclopedia, haha. I knew trivia such as Chewbacca’s home planet (Kashyyyk) to Admiral Ackbar species (Mon Calamari).

Then one day I found myself at the opposite end of the spectrum and decided to do something about this.
I signed up for physical bootcamp. I was doing jocks stuff and I buffed up. I was excelling in my new found interest and no one bothered me again.
Did I find my answer to my problem then? Well not exactly, as much as I revel being called a jock, I never did clicked with my new beefy friends. At heart I’m still that geeky nerdy sci-fi freak that I was.
What I actually gained, from this ‘transformation’ is a new found confidence and self-esteem. That’s what has been missing in my life.
One thing is for sure, bullying still exists. 20 years on, the clothes might be different, but people are still being mean.
My advise kids, stand your ground. If you bite back, most of the time they’ll back-off. If they don’t, bite back harder!
hey… sorry to hear abt the bullying part when you had been young… well… as long as we live, there will always be mean people out there.. called it a test of inner faith… bt all i know is that sometimes those bullying might mould the victim into a positive and strong persn with a strong sense of faith and inner strength, and maybe sadly, it might mould the person into the opposite way, a negative with a strng sense of hatred…. well.. like you, i was bullied too… maybe cos i was wat you can say the good girl in school, the one with the specs, quiet and always do the homework and always go back home after school on time kind of gal… haha… but well… all that i can say is the bullying make me into a shy gal with very low self esteem bt at the same time, it instills a strong inner faith in me too.. and at the same time it give me a chance to know who my real frens are…. bt well..nw.. all tat is in the past and we have all grown up nw… :) even till now in the workplace, i still feel that sometimes i am being bullied… maybe because i think no matter how they keep asking me to do things, I will still try to remain patient and put up with the person for as long as i can … although i will stop at backstabbing… thats one thing that i could never tolerate…bt maybe the keeping quiet and not fighting back or voicing out make these people thing that they can continue to bully me… bt well….i believe that what goes around comes around… and one day they might just get their deserts… :P…
so hey… juz continue to enjoy wat u r doing and believe in k… the heck abt wat pple say.. as long as you enjoy wat u r doing, it really doesnt really matter… :P… its your life.. no one can dictate it except u.. :)
oh.. n one last thing… i m sorry to say bt your pick up line is lame and corny sia!!!! I was drinking as I am reading your blog and nearly spit the water out when i came to tt line….
