Beauty

Yes the notion of “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” is what we’ve been rightly taught so, but tell that to the six foot blonde ang moh dude who got better service than me at the coffee-house counter.

William Hogarth, an 18th century moralist who wrote the book ‘The Analysis of Beauty’ confronted the very subject of beauty. He theorized that beauty can be analyzed by implementing six principles.

That is:

1. Fitness
2. Greatness
3. Intricacy
4. Quantity
5. Regularity
6. Variety

But then again Hogarth theories are more more suited and a manifesto on artwork and it’s theories. Another study on beauty I read somewhere found that areas of the brain previously identified as responding to such rewards as food, drugs and money also respond to facial beauty.

Why am I not surprised …

I recalled an old article I read a few year back on CNN, regarding a research by a career think-tank which found that plain looking people earn lesser than people of average looks, who in turn earn lesser too than those deemed good-looking.

Again surprised? Well nahhh …

There has been so many characterization and studies on the subject of beauty itself, and one cannot help but confounded with the fact that being ‘beautiful’ matters. It all leads to a much more brighter prospects as human beings are just hardwired to respond more favorably to attractive people.

It’s human nature reacting to such beauty, and its a way of life. I guess either you’re blessed in that department, or you don’t eh.

Like today by reflex I got very defensive when a friend talked about such matters, as in my eyes I’ll always be that average looking joe, and wishes to be more than that but can’t.

Yes life may not be fair on how you’re being treated in terms of beauty, but at the end of the day, what really matters if you’re comfortable in your own skin, and stop putting yourself down. Being beautiful to me is a journey, well I’m still on it …
