Singapore General Election 2006

Heres the latest General Election 2006 results.

Out of a total of 84 seats, the PAP has secured 82 seats while the opposition has garnered 2 seats, out of which 47 seats was contested yesterday.

Some 1.22 million Singapore voters have casted their votes, quite a good turnout at 94% of total eligible voters I might add. One of the votes, was actually mine, heh!

I have voted and played my small part in this watershed election of ours. Since I stay at Woodlands area (yeah very da ulu, Woodlanders ARE so up north, we might as well become Johorian, haha!), I’ll be voting under the Sembawang GRC (Group Representation Constituencies).

As this is my maiden involvement in voting and politics, it was kinda exciting for me!. The week leading up to Polling Day, everyone and anyone whos eligible to vote was abuzz about the General Election.

My Sembawang GRC who had a previous 3 walkover in the General Election, this time round however, it was contested by the SDP (Singapore Democratic Party). PAP and SDP held rallies at Woodlands Stadium that very week. I kinda missed out the PAP rally due to training, but I did managed to get my ass down to the SDP rally. I went with Tong last Friday night. This chabor, beyond that cute & bubbly exterior, she really knows her stuff and put me to shame when it comes to politics! After the rally, I was still undecided who I should vote … haiz

I woke up bright and early on Polling Day, around 6am. The moment I woke up, I was more or less by then, had made up my mind who to vote. I’ve come to my decision after a whole night of turning and wriggling in my bed trying to choose between the PAP or SDP. But just to make sure I’ve made the right choice, I went online awhile that morning, to search and read up more on the PAP and SDP political party manisfesto … I had to be sure.

I went with dad to my designated Polling Station, which was Woodlands Ring Primary School. We arrived at the station around 7.30am and the queue was already spiraling. The Polling station opened their doors around 8am and the whole voting process took less than 15minutes.

You might want to know, which party did I vote? Well now … its a secret. Only Tong knows

Then after, I duly shuffle my way down for some lovely breakfast! I had a craving for Longtong. I recommend Mak Anan Muslim Store at Admiralty Shopping Mall. They serve great Nasi Lemak and other local Malay dishes at just $2! But be prepared to queue! Its a long wait
