I don’t understand most people fear of cockroaches.
They’re still basically insects, like ants and butterfly, well you don’t see people scurrying for higher ground when it’s around.
Maybe it’s because how these cockroaches appear.
Their exoskeleton does looks fugly and eyyww-like, but I can live with that.
I don’t know about the rest, not wanting to sound mean, but it’s always ‘fun’ to see girls go berserk when a cockroach appears, haha.
There is no term actually to describe the phobia of cockroaches, but it’s generally considered such fear is called entomophobia, or the fear of insects.
I tried reading online more about the root of such fear, and I quote, “This may be a reasonable fear based on knowledge or experience (bees, wasps, spiders, mosquitoes), an unreasonable but culturally understandable repulsion (cockroaches or flies), or a misplaced fear resulting from inadequate information (dragonflies, moths, crickets).”
The best form of method to dispel such apprehension is education and facing the fear itself. An immediate direct approach I can think of is to grab hold of the cockroach, try it. Of course not for the faint-of-heart.
Michael Bohdan, founded the “Cockroach Hall of Fame” inside his Texas pest control shop. Bohdan says the museum attracts about 6000 visitors a year.
