Well I’m feeling quite helpless now, as my PC crashed.
I can’t do my work or revise.
Such dependance on computers we are these days ah.
Anyway I’m blogging from the school library and the post you’re seeing are made in advance before the crash.
I suspect it’s AGP graphic card.
Anyone got a spare?
Anyway if I’m not blogging for the day, that means I’ve run out of advanced post

Hi, when your pc crash, it do “sound” you out and indicate to you what went wrong.
when you first start up your pc, it normally give off a beep sound and one beep sound normally indicate the pc is ok. and for some motherboard, different beep meant different meaning. like my motherboard, 3 long beep mean there is some thing wrong with my display card.
so listen out for the type and number of beeps that the pc have produced and check with google or your motherboard manual. At least you will know which parts need you attention and aviod a wild goose chase.
hope that help!
Cheers
Fredrick
going into boot its fine
the xp logo screen can even be seen
then blue screen … unmountable_boo_device, hardware failure, etc
on last check my HDD are fine, mobo ok, but my gfx has been giving me problems
so its most likely my gfx
gonna try a friends geforce to confirm it
thanks for the tip … i didn’t know about the beeps
Have you tried the fixmbr command from the console ? Maybe its not the hardware problem but it could be software portion ?
If you boot into the Recovery Console using a Windows XP CD, and if you can go to the C: drive and change into the System Volume Information directory, and if you had the System Restore service running, the following may bring the computer back to life (it’s a bit sludgy, but if it works should be the least hassle):
Go into the “System Volume Information” directory on the C: drive. Then, change into a directory named _restore{}; of course run “dir” first to see the exact name of this directory. In there, you’ll see a bunch of directories named “rpNNN” where NNN is a number; go into the directory with the highest number.
Then, change into the directory named “snapshot”. In there, you’ll find a number of files, and we’ll copy some registry files back into %systemroot%\system32\config by running the following commands:
copy _registry_machine_sam %systemroot%\system32\config\sam
copy _registry_machine_security %systemroot%\system32\config\security
copy _registry_machine_software %systemroot%\system32\config\software
copy _registry_machine_system %systemroot%\system32\config\system
If you do not find these files, or if the “snapshot” directory does not exist at all, go to the “rpNNN” directory with the next lower number and see if you have any luck there. You may want to check the date on the files before you copy them, just to make sure we’re not restoring files from a very old restore point. It may be a good precaution to first rename the files to be overwritten to something else (sam.bak, etc.), so you can change all this back afterwards if you want to.
When everything is done, exit the recovery console which should trigger a reboot. With any luck, Windows will now start.
