Responsible Blogging

I’m sure those who have seen the MRT suicide videos online found the scenes rather disturbing. It raises the issues if we as bloggers are accountable for our action and writings. The blogger who uploaded the disturbing video was asked to come down for questioning at the police station.

His very next entry, he laid out a long-winded “I’m Sorry” entry and removed the videos, citing reason he didn’t think of it’s affect on the family of the suicide person, and yada yada yada …

The videos looks like a CCTV recording and if it’s not of his property, I’m all for the police dudes for asking him to remove the video.

But if it’s indeed his own recording, and it has been uploaded by his own accord, I believe it should be public domain viewing and so far there’s no Internet laws restricting such uploads. But it also brought up another issue, rather than recording the impending death scene, could he prevented it by alerting the authorities if it was his recording lah.

Singapore has one of the highest suicide rates with our high rise flat and trains. When a person decides to take his own life, there isn’t much one can stop the person. If not by SMRT trains, it may be other form.

But when the MRT was built barrier free, I knew it was just asking for ‘trouble’. It’s like an invitation for all suicide wannabes out there, pay 60 cents for a frontal seated view of an incoming train at 50km p/h.

What a wacko world we live in … haiz

This is such a so unfortunate-turn-out-of-events. Singapore can never be a suicide-free country. Stress lah. Cost of living very high now. Sigh.
