A parody of the room scheme by a student
From the news yesterday ,the NTU three room scheme for upcoming semester will be likely scrapped
Finally they’re listening to reason rather than economics
A former hostel tenant myself, three is indeed a crowd in my opinion

The above photo was from my old Hall 13. One of the older Halls and has one of the ‘bigger’ room space. The Hall was slated for the first phase of NTU three room scheme
The room is just nice for two person. So when I heard of the new room scheme for the next semester, I was thinking it will be a squeeze for current occupants
So good to know the online protest worked wonders
Now NTU have to find alternatives for the influx of new students of course, so they have no choice but to build more hostel rooms
It’s just that in the first place, I believe the school was just being stingy on their part, not wanting to build more accommodation, but knowing fully well there will be more new students next semester based on their increase of applications by NTU … shheeshh
Unlike NUS, the school has plenty of land space, I think it hardly any problem on that
Now competition for room will be harder than usual, so my advise … pick up a sport and join the school varsity team. Your chances are higher in retaining/getting your room
NTU may scrap plans to house three students in double rooms
SINGAPORE: Nanyang Technological University may be scrapping its proposal to house three students in double rooms on campus accommodation.
The university had earlier proposed the triple-share scheme in a bid to ease hostel room shortage.
NTU said the scheme is still in the proposal stage and nothing has been confirmed.
But the plan had drawn criticism from many students.
Channel NewsAsia understands that during a meeting with student representatives on 23 March, NTU’s Dean of Students, Associate Professor Lok Tat Seng, had assured them that the plan will not go ahead.
Professor Lok is expected to make an announcement in the student paper, the Nanyang Chronicle next week.
NTU’s reversal is likely due to widespread student unhappiness.
Many had gone online to express their views.
Some students had also planned to be clad in black clothes on 25 March as a sign of protest, but this is not likely to go ahead now.
The triple-share proposal, while highly unpopular, is seen as a way for NTU to meet the expected increase in demand for on-campus accommodation in the coming academic year.
The 16 Halls of Residence can currently hold over 9,000 students, but with the freshmen intake expected to go up this year, that means competition for hostel room will be even tighter, if the plan is dropped. – CNA/vm
