Undergrad To Be

Sha June 17, 2004 0

Yesterday, a big brown package which resembled a badly squashed wrapped up newspaper (no thanks to Singapore Post for their excellent service!), arrived in my mailbox.

The letterhead marked NTU got all my nerves at ends, I took awhile staring at the brown package.

With bated breath, I took a peek at the front letterhead, it says … “CONGRATULATIONS …bla, blah”

I finally gotten into NTU for a 3 years undergrad course.

The first thing that came to my mind was … “Oh no! Another 3 dreadful years of slogging and sleepless nights …”.

Dont be mistaken, I believe the “paper-chase” is kinda important to eek out a good living in Singapore, I mean you have too!

But the “process” of getting the “paper” at times just makes me wanna crawl in bed and swear never attend another lecture or tutorials

Im not trying to be smug or being proud here. Not having a degree doesn’t mean you’re a whole less of a person.

A fancy degree with little real world application makes much of the degree as boring as hell

But I’m pretty hapi with myself because I took the long path of Sec Normal Tech, NS, ITE, Poly and now Uni (With my age, I think I’m in the Senior Citizen category at Uni).

I wouldn’t have done it any differently. Determination, thats my outlook on life …

Calvin Coolidge (former US 13th President 1923-1929) once said, “Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent” ..

Well here goes, another chapter in my life, hopefully it ain’t shitty

IVP and hopefully AUG here i come! …

And oh ya people! Look out for todays match, England vs Switzerland 11.50pm
