Cats

Sha May 10, 2009 11

All my life I’ve always had pets. From bunnies, little ninja turtles to kitties. I’m an animal lover, as having pets around is just more fun ya know. They’re so cute too!

Currently I’m staying in a rental one-room place, so its quite impossible for me to have any pets around, but I do would like to have one when I’m more stable financially and am having my own apartment.

To think of it, I got excited over such prospect, I took an hour off my work-time researching about exotic cats earlier today!

Hahaha yes I did. All my kitties previously are those I picked up from da streets, so this time round, I wanna try and get myself a cat pedigree of sorts. I don’t mind paying for the premiums if needed.

Here’s a few cat breeds I found that interest me:

Maine Coon

Maine Coon

Maine Coon

The Maine Coon is a breed of domestic cat well known for its distinctive physical appearance. It is one of the oldest natural breeds in North America. The Maine Coon has since made a comeback and is now the second most popular cat breed in the world. The breed can be seen in a variety of colors and are known for their intelligence and gentle personalities. They are hardy, gentle and loving with long fur but don’t need as much grooming as a Persian.

Siamese

Siamese

Siamese

The Siamese is one of the first distinctly recognised breeds of Oriental cat. Siamese are affectionate and intelligent cats, renowned for their social nature. They enjoy being with people and are sometimes described as “extroverts”. As there are extrovert siamese, there also are very sensitive and nervous temperaments, which are not easily adapted to the changes of environment or to strangers. They are extremely vocal, with a loud, low-pitched voice that has been compared to the cries of a human baby, and persistent in demanding attention. They also have a great need for human companionship. Often they bond strongly to a single person. These cats are typically active and playful, even as adults.

Abyssinian

Abyssinian

Abyssinian

Abyssinians are extroverted, willful and intelligent, but are usually not “lap cats”, being too preoccupied with exploring and playing as they would in their natural habitat. Although very popular among breeders and owners, Abyssinians aren’t often used as show cats because of their shyness towards strangers and their timid nature. They have quiet, engaging voices that can often be misleading. Abys, as they are affectionately referred to by their fans, need a great deal of contact with the family to keep them happy and can get depressed without daily activity and attention. They generally get on well with other cats, although they need their space and the females can sometimes be irritable around other cats. Abyssinians are known for their curiosity and enjoy exploring their surroundings, including heights, although they are sensible cats that do not take unnecessary risks.

Ragdoll

Ragdoll

Ragdoll

The Ragdoll is a cat breed with blue eyes and a distinct colorpoint coat. The defining characteristic of the original Ragdoll is its docile temperament and tendency to go limp when picked up, thought to be due to a genetic mutation or passed down from the Persian and Birman breed. This has led to the myth that Ragdolls are pain-resistant. They are generally considered gentle and laid back animals.

But the one that got me really interested is this cat breed:

Exotic Shorthair

Exotic Shorthair

Exotic Shorthair

They have nearly the same body as the Persian, but a thick, dense short coat. They appeal to people who like the personality of a Persian but do not want the hassle of grooming a long-haired cat. They are also known as “The Lazy Man’s Persian.” The Exotic Shorthair has a gentle and calm personality reminiscent of the Persian, but it is livelier than his longhaired ancestor. Curious and playful, it is friendly to other cats and dogs. It rarely meows. It doesn’t like being left alone, and needs the presence of its owner (or of voices or smells reminiscent of its master-such as a radio kept on). They tend to show more affection and loyalty than most breeds and make excellent lap cats. Their calm and steady nature makes them ideal apartment cats for city dwellers. Nonetheless, Exotics retain some of the energetic spark of their American Shorthair forbears and they are often capable mouse hunters.

Well here’s a video clip of a cutie and playful Exotic Shorthair:

I know this is not your usual Uncle Sha manly post today …

And by now some of you must be thinking, “Dude … seriously you need to get a girlfriend”

Well I’m working on that one too damnit! :p

pls pick up a cat from the street! dun buy a cat! save the ones dat are being in danger of abuse by ppl! seriusly, i tink pickg up one is better cos u’r doing a whole lot of better for the community, the cats and urself. it’s a 3-in-1 deal, as oppose to getting a pedigree. u hv to pay for them, u’r putting one more cat in danger and this will in turn (for those who hate cats) make ppl think dat there’s one more cat they hv to contend wif. just my thots for ur consideration.

fyi, im a proud owner of a cat, 10 yrs already, picked up by my neighbour in a longkang.

      The Russian Blue are adorable!

I’ve seen these kinds on movies.

Are they lap-caps? or they like to be on their own?
