We were once a nation of foreign ‘export’ ourselves and thrived with diversification. We proudly called ourselves Singaporean now. Now it has come to a point we Singaporean come out short on the numbers for certain ‘untouchable’ jobs and outsourced these to Chinaman or Bangladeshi now.
I don’t deny the fact that some of our future nation’s progress hinges on these new batches of ‘imported’ foreign workers, we’ve moved beyond hands-on manufacturing era and into the services industry
Eventually exploitation of such foreign workers is inevitable. Singaporeans who wanted instant gratification at the expense of the welfare of these poor workers as pointed out in the video above
I chuckled at the recent spotlight of the Serangoon Gardens residence opposition to build a foreign workers dormitory. Have these residents actually been to such dormitory and the hard life these foreign workers lead. Funnily enough we use and need these workers around, but we don’t want them seen or living within our visual sight
What do you expect … the ‘exodus’ of foreign workers from their own home to find opportunities in Singapore will bring new cultures and way of life for which we Singaporean will find it ‘crude’. We’ll be unused to it, crime rate would slightly go up and a new conclave of foreign community will self-form but the bottomline, we just need to be more patience to these workers social cause and effect
