Our very own red light district, much more tame than Bangkok or Netherlands but still very happening la. I was with a bunch of friends the other day, nothing to do, well we decided to visit Geylang. Not for the services ah, but more of merayap surveying the place and supper.
I’ve not been there for quite sometime now infact, the last time was during the World Cup, where the place is a hotbed of LIVE free screening at the kopitiams.
I’ve always been fascinated by Geylang Lorongs after being told by my friends of such vices being offered there. Growing up, you tend to ask questions and seek answers. I remembered the first time I went there, to poke around and see what it’s all about.
It was during my National Service time with my NS police buddies. I think about this age, it’s kinda like a rite of passage for all boys goes through. To visit the prostitutes at Geylang and the Bapuks at Changi Village.
You get to oggle, mingle, talk, touch and even render the services. It’s really up to an individual to extend how far he’ll go … for me, well I play it safe
Walking around Geylang Lorong there at night is as the same as it was few years back. The quality girls are those behind ‘fish tank’, while the less screened ones are those lining up along the streets with pimps hawking their trade.
Sometimes those without pimps are those you should be wary off. They come off cheap and will resort to anything to get your dough. Sometimes you get even to see some people playing ‘catching’.
Probably some Mat getting into trouble with some Ah Beng, such clashes are hysterical to watch, stare-down and such. Egos!
It’s interesting to think and wonder why people joined the flesh trade. In fact I’ve heard even more local secondary school and university students are signing up. They’re not hardcore prostitutes but freelance prostitutes. Good money they say, but at what cost?
I don’t really know anyone who is such freelance but to think the number of customers they have to handle per night. I bet some of them don’t even bother using condoms. After servicing couple of customers, bet it just gets in the way.
But who are we to judge how they want to run their lives and earn that extra money. Maybe help these freelance find an alternative way for them to earn money perhaps … It is usually the middle and lower class people who render the services of prostitutes.
Well do you visit Geylang Lorong?
