IRAS Singapore

Sha April 14, 2009 0

It’s tax time of the season now. Don’t forget filing of your income tax returns people. Deadline is 15th April and 18th April for e-filing. Here’s a little guide from me about the ways to file your tax.

Filing via e-filing

If you have been eFiling your tax via phone or via myTax portal, please continue to do so either using the IRAS PIN (either the existing one you have been using or you can also use new PIN issued by IRAS via PIN Mailer) or SINGPASS.

Once you have received the IRAS PIN mailers, you may proceed to log on to the myTax portal to e-file your income tax returns, wef 1 Mar 2009. If there is any discrepancy in terms of the remuneration information shown in the myTax portal, please contact us for clarifications.

If you have not received it by 15 Mar 2009, please visit the IRAS website to apply for either an IRAS PIN or SINGPASS, at http://www.iras.gov.sg/irasHome/page.aspx?id=6154

Filing via Post

If this is your first time filing income tax (as foreigners or as Singaporean/SPR) or if you have been mailing out your income tax forms instead doing it electronically, IRAS will be sending you the letter notification enclosing a full set of income tax forms.

You can either mail the tax forms back to IRAS or submit to them personally at the Revenue House. Please note that you do not need to declare or include any remuneration information related to your current employment.

To avoid mail loss, we strongly encourage you to eFile your tax returns via mytax portal or phone by applying for the IRAS PIN or SINGPASS via the following websites:

SINGPASS

Earning less than $22,000 in a year

You do not need to pay tax if your annual income is less than $22,000.

However, you may still need to file tax if you have been informed by IRAS to submit your tax form. Even if you do not have any income in previous years, you still need to declare zero income in your tax form and submit by 15 Apr.

Earning $22,000 or more in a year

You need to file tax if your annual income is $22,000 or more. The amount of tax you need to pay depends on your income and deductions.

Please log in to myTax Portal to e-file your income tax form by 15 Apr if you do not receive any notification to file tax by 15 Mar.
