Blog advertising does pay, and from my arduous money making experience, so far it has been positive with Nuffnang Pte Ltd after switching to them late last year.
Here’s my recent check below, the third from them.

But … yes there’s a but, despite the encouraging sum, Nuffnang screwed up royally in paying not only me but other bloggers it seems. I was slated to received my check during early February 2010, after cashing out in December 2009.
And it seems due to unforeseen circumstances, Nuffnang was unable to issue the check, and it arrived a month late. Not encouraging right, but being human we’ve the capacity to forgive and forget.
The support staff I query regarding my check was really sincere and apologetic. And a few days later, there was a mass email explaining to the bloggers who was affected.
Still Nuffnang could have informed the affected bloggers earlier, rather than keeping us in the dark, and only sending out a memo of their situation only after bloggers starts to ask around.
Despite all that I would still be sticking to Nuffnang, they’ve earned my confidence for they’ve shown they’re willing to take responsibility, and going to distance to restore faith in their publishers for any muck-ups … and NO I’m not being paid to say that, nor am I sucking up.
I didn’t start out with Nuffnang of course, although I registered with them back in 2007, I opted to be a so call premium membership of another Asian online advertising firm call, Advertlets.
It started out well with Advertlets, with Josh Lim founder of the company personally ‘poaching’ me to join his Titan exclusive blogger network, where I managed to rake over RM$1264 by selling my blog space via them.
But over time, things got sloppy, my support ticket unanswered, and importantly payment was missed. That was the last straw for me.

Of course, this is not a blog bashing entry, I just want to highlight my personal experience, and I do hope Advertlets will get their act together.
Also I’ll take note from this day onwards how long will it take for them to pay me for what they owed me since year 2008, that is if they will even honor it.
It’s really a shame I had to resort to this blog posting to get my money … let’s see if Advertlets will even respond.
If an average dull blogger like me is able to earn this sizable amount, anyone with a blog can too.
By comparison, my check pales in comparison with other Nuffnang celebrity bloggers such as Chan Lilian, Kenny Sia or Xiaxue, who has been seen posting their $20K Nuffnang check on their blog.
I’m just a small fry blogger … still, if you want to know my secret, well there is actually none. The only thing I did is blogging for 10 minutes daily consistently, without fail. That’s it!
But however I’ve a few tips if you want to reach the echelons of celebrity bloggers, for which I can’t fulfill due to ehem basically me being ME.
How to get more advertisers
- Female – Yup the fairer sex has far better advertising appeal. Come on, would you rather see an ad with a dude trying to sell you a beer, or a hot skin-clad babe in a bikini. Indeed aside from resorting to a sex change, I can’t do anything about this factor, and if you’re a female and has a blog, you’ve more chances of being picked up by advertisers.
- Camwhoring – I abhore to camwhore, but advertisers love it. As they say, a pictures is worth a thousand words. And if you’re a camwhorer, your selling point to an advertiser increases exponentially for they know you’ll ‘hawk’ their product like there’s no tomorrow with avalanches of photos, for which camwhorers are known for.
- Aesthetically pleasing – It is a plus point if you’re pretty or good looking. Most advertisers as we know would opt for a pretty-little-thing as it has the appeal factor. If you’re a girl, putting on make-up and utilising good camera angles for your photos can aid in your quest, but as for disaster looking guys like me, there’s nothing we can do. I’m just content with whatever few advertising opportunity come my way, as we know we ain’t Brad Pitt eh.
