I was catching up on my current affairs, and one news that caught my eye was one fella who lost all his money at the newly opened Resorts World Sentosa casino, and resorted to stealing to get more cash, probably to feed his gambling addiction.
That’s the kind of ‘baggage’ that comes with opening a casino here in Singapore, a first in our country, but it’s hard pressed not to have one, as economically the creation of jobs, some 35,000 to be exact can’t be overlooked.
But then again, at the end of the day, you’ve to take a look who stands to gain most from such an industry.
It’s never the white or blue collar worker, anyway these days Singaporeans are treated as second class citizen by its own government.
Singapore in fact has the highest income gap between the rich and the poor among the 30 most developed nations in the world.
I truly believe in the coming years we’ll get to see more of such negative social impacts the casino will bring upon us.
Oh yes there will be plenty of PR crackdowns on organised crimes, like recently in Geylang, but there will also be many unreported undesirable activities.
Personally I don’t gamble, nor find the logic and the attraction in wagering your money with odds that are stacked against you.
The house always wins, unless you’re the Rain Man, why even bother … I would rather invest in something more worthwhile.
wow its so cool to be like you.. wat ever u do mesti boleh
The Casino was complete crap. Not fun in the slightest. Bunh of people ipping tea and trying to get onto a tabl to gamble. If you want to gamble and want to have fun, one word for you… VEGAS!
