Syltra Lee (On the left)
Syltra Lee gets the first boot for Singapore Idol Season 3. Bye Syltra, I was shocked at the results myself!
An 18-year-old singer-song writer, Syltra Lee captures the attention with her tidal voice and has avid hopes of being able to inspire others with her music.
Her passion for music goes a ways back to when she was 13: the acoustic guitar had got her started, and she has since been performing with it. Syltra enjoys the boundless freedom and energetic atmosphere performing at large-scale concerts, and at laid-back, careless, intimate acoustic sessions.
Her smile is as contagious as her person is vibrant and colourful; her music is her personality. Syltra is humbled, being able to express herself through her unique sound.
Syltra is currently playing regularly at Acid Bar.

My Singapore Idol posting below on 6th June 2009
Singapore Idol
Singapore Idol is back after three years of hiatus!
Well for me, I didn’t really follow Season Two that was held back in 2006 where Hardy Mirza won, but was more of a fan for Season One back in 2004.
I can still even remember the names of the contestants from our very own Idol debut, such as Maia Lee (she’s still around, now a STOMP star blogger), Sylvester Sim, Jeassea Thyidor (yummy!), Daphne Khoo, to our very first Idol Taufik Batisah.
Well the third edition of Singapore Idol will premiere on August 9, 2009, after the telecast of Singapore’s National Day Parade.
Did you know that Singapore Idol Season 3 registration is already opened from May 1st. I didn’t know that until I read the papers.
By the way, today is the last day of online registration where it ends June 6th.
So if you’re between 16 and 30, here’s your last chance to become a star. I myself find the age limiting, they should extend the age limit like Britain’s Got Talent. They found gem of a talent such as Susan Boyle right! And she’s 48 years old.
Manalah tahu, pakcik Sha mungkin satu hari nak audition ker …
And oh yah, there will be a new judge, Jacintha was booted out for undisclosed reason. The original panel of judges of Dick, Florence and Ken is still the same.
I can’t wait for it, but then again how am I to watch the show, I’ve no television set! Hahaha … To the kopitiam it is then.
July 15th - Top 24 selected by the judges. Those who made it yesterday, sang one song that will decide their Idol fate.
July 14th - Day 3 of Theatre Auditions marks the end for this phase, judges to deliberate who gets through next. Only 40 will make it.
July 12th - Theatre Auditions starts at Caldecott Hill studio. 100 Idol hopefuls.
Update #14:
FremantleMedia, Europe’s largest TV, radio, and production company, has secured the Singapore Idol season three on Mediacorp TV Singapore.
FremantleMedia CEO Patrick Schult was quoted,“Singapore Idol will be back bigger than ever. With a record turnout of applicants, we have seen some great talent and also some not so great, who were very entertaining all the same. FremantleMedia has taken the Idols program to more than 40 countries around the world with great success, and we’re delighted to be working with Mediacorp TV Singapore for the third time. Singapore has been waiting a long time for another Singapore Idol and I don’t think they will be disappointed.”
CNA did a coverage of the Singapore Idol 3 auditions. These are our local hopeful Idols.
Update #10:
New features for “Singapore Idol 3″
Recording contract is offered by Universal Music for the winner.
Fans are now allowed to vote from the start of the show.
For each episode, you can expect to see who is safe and who is eliminated on the same night.
Contestants will now not only be judged by their singing, but also their musical instruments proficiency from the theatre rounds onwards.
Judges can use their new “Judges’ Save” feature to prevent any eliminated contestants voted by users.
Contestant who are in the two bottom-ranking will sing the “Salvation Song”. A common song where the better singer will get to stay, the other goes home.
Over 4,000 people turned up for the audition, double the number from three years ago. Organisers have decided to extend the auditions to Sunday 7th June due to the overwhelming response.
Update #3:
The audition for Singapore Idol starts on June 6th, Saturday.
Singapore Idol 2009 debuts on TV on August 9th (Sunday) on National Day.
The Singapore Idol finale is set on December 20th, Sunday.
Update #2:
Gurmit’s co-host Daniel Ong has left the show too, following Jacintha Abisheganaden footsteps.
Update #1:
Hady Mirza, winner of the 2006 Singapore Idol, will co-host the third season of the talent competition with Gurmit Singh. He will play the role of ‘big-brother’. The question is where’s Taufik Batisah, I would like to see him around too.
