Singapore Local Movie History

A few days ago, I posted an entry about Army Daze movie

It got me thinking, about how our local movie industry really has tremendously improved over the years

The recent Royston Tan’s 881 movie was even accepted as Singapore’s selection for Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film

Sibeh bagus ….

Here’s recapping some of the earlier yesteryear local movies that made a huge impression on me

Can you guys recall “The Teenage Textbook Movie”

Melody Chen looks the same back in 1998 and now!

The movie setting was about actress Melody Chen in fictional Paya Lebar JC, with her best girl friend, who discovers boys and love. i might say, a lot of good looking people in the movie there

I also love the awesome movie soundtrack plus it tugs the heart of a young impressionable young man in me back in 1998 about wanting to hook up with JC chicks and I kept wondering to myself why am I not clever enough to go to JC! Hahaha

Perfect movie for a cosy Sunday night with your boo I might add

Then there was “Mee Pok Man”

Interesting start of a trailer eh

It’s an Eric Khoo film, a very popular movie with the boys back in 1995, all because of a hot Michelle Goh. She plays a prostitute named Bunny. Cute name right

The story is kind of bizarre in a sense and I was too young too understand it. I was just wondering if the lead actor Joe Ng was retarded or something, but he actually isn’t. He’s just shy

As I grew older, I found out, the term I’m looking for was Necrophilia. It means sexual attraction to corpses. The movie dwell into such topic

And how about the movie “12 Storeys”

The movie trailer quality here is abit crappy

This 1997 Eric Khoo’s movie is actually a follow-up movie to Mee Pok Man. It’s a marked improvement over Khoo’s previous effort

I can relate more to this movie as it features everyday challenges we all faced

Plus once again, the lady lead, Lum May Yee is truly hot.

Ok don’t mind the elevated testerones level speaking here but the movie is interestingly told through the eyes of a man which tells the story of three heartland families in one 12 Storey block … thus the title

Well that was some of the local movies

What are some of the movies that made you go whoopeeeeee back then?
