We the citizens of Singapore

Sha July 10, 2010 2

I was reading The Economist, and an interesting article that caught my attention was the one on Politician’s Salaries. It really irks me just by reading it man.

Guess what?

Our Ministers it seems are the highest paid civil-servants around, and if the salaries was then based on GDP per person, we’re second behind Kenya.

Looks like we’re practically number one in just about everything eh for all the wrong reasons of course. Well done lah.

Do you think such high wages are justifiable? I don’t! These are the same Ministers who rejected the extra $30 under the Public Assistance Scheme for the needy and elderly.

Instead we’re splurging on the who-cares YOG, which now has a ballooning budget of S$387 million, to spending troves of taxpayers money on success in sports by hiring professional foreign athletes donning the Red and White.

Yes Singapore is still a great place to live … but only if you can afford it of course. It has now become an expat’s haven, and the locals have become second-class citizens.

Singaporeans I noticed ain’t a happy bunch anymore. Muka masam nak mampos (Sulky faces) as I observed when I’m out and about.

Gone are the days of nationalistic pride. Just take a look at our national flags that is being draped at housings and dwellings as National Day approaches.

The real citizens of Singapore can’t be bothered anymore, as I reckon it’s the town council who has to make the effort of putting the flags up.

Plus the pressure to succeed in Singapore has actually pushed some people to the brink of madness.

Singapore has such a controlled and stiffing environment, everyone is so wound-up, and it’s truly troubling. We’ve kids jumping to their deaths over grades mind you!

I’ve finally decided that I wouldn’t be sinking my roots here.

Yes Singapore will still be my base of operation for my business for its excellent infrastructure that many other places doesn’t have, but the bottomline I’ll be spending my money elsewhere.

We the citizens of Singapore has become the Stepford version of a nation.
