Do you have a promising brother or sister who can run. Well I recommend you join Wings Athletics Club. I can proudly say it’s my athletics club and we nurture future potential athletes. It’s an all round development, and not just about athletics.

Anyway my club recently has just returned from a ban. Yes a freaking ban!

It was a temporary ban over couple of months by our superb sports association. Not only they ban the club, but also 2 coaches and 2 athletes. It all started out over a row over SEA Games 2005 4x400m selection. Well I won’t go in-depth into it, but all I can say the ban is rather absurd.

Singapore as small as it is, it still has politics in the local Track & Field scene. Look at it this way. We only have few meagre athletics club in Singapore. At the helm is an ahpek who is power-hungry. So everything is screwed up because of him

The power-hungry club and association changes rules as they please to suit their goals and agenda. For example, there used to be a time when we can send Team NTU to Singapore Open competition for the relays. Now it’s by invitation only. I guess if the relay National Team were to lose to let’s say Team NTU relay team, that’s kinda embarrassing it hur.

Well so be it!

That will show that the relay team has alot to improve on and the weakness exposed. Running is an individual sport, you can’t have politics in it or you can’t succeed. Singapore Athletics which once reign supreme in the 60′s to 80s in Asia, now we’re pussycats.

A toothless lion

Now I’m putting alot of effort into my club. I say start there, on a mirco level. Start small and it will grow into something big. When we produce athletes or excellent performances and we’re self sufficient, there’s no excuse or reason for anyone to find fault with us

So please spread the word of Wings Athletics Club

I love running in the past and I still do and I still follow our local track scene often.

I agree wif you abt not having politics running our track scene and that goes for every other sports in our country as well. It’s time we start producing management and athletes alike who will do us proud and levitate our standards to a much higher one.

I am sure you have done a great job with Wings and I have always thought of helping out regardless as an athlete or not. Let me know if there’s anything I can do.

    Cheers!

hey. I can’ believe it. So you’re the one who poasted all the updates throughout 48th Nationals on Singaporeathletics.com. Wow. It’s an honour. I’m thinking of joining a club after I fin A levels. My coach’s from Swift so I’m deciding b/w Swift and Wings. I hope Swift isnt the power hungry club since they’re like damn old. :s All the best for WAC. I’ve a friend who used to be in the high jumps there. Heard the trg was damn tough.

    • Uncle Sha July 27, 2007 at 1:12 am - Reply

Yup focus on your A’s then join us

Well there has been situation where a coach is from one club, and his/her athlete is another club. its all about you choosing, which club makes u feel more at ease

      training is always tough rite
