World Cup Singapore

Sha May 8, 2010 1

So finally we’re going to get to watch the World Cup.

StarHub and SingTel proudly announced this morning that they “have secured non-exclusive rights to broadcast ‘live’ all 64 matches of the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.”

In the first place there should not have been any issue with such a telecast, if not for these telcos being such cheapo bastards.

To think the gazillions they have amassed from us, and was hesitant to put broker a deal as they cite “broadcast cost has escalated”.

WTF, even the Indons and RTM Malaysia has such a broadcast on their free-to-air channels.

And after much of the hoo-haa drama-mama, StarHub and SingTel are pricing their World Cup telecast at ransom price of $66 to $94.

Thanks but no thanks …

Prior to this deal, we’re the only nation in the world that had no access the World Cup matches. I myself was planning to watch it via our neighbour across the Causeway, maybe a trip with my friends into their local pubs.

But now since StarHub and SingTel are having live matches, it’s back to the kopitiam for me. It’s cheaper lah, and it’s old-school.

Kopi-O peng satu …
